“ The Bread Of Life ! ” “It is written !” When I was a child, I spoke as a child I understood as a child, I thought as a child but when I became a man, I put away childish things. Growing up a Young Black Man-Child living in Chilhowie Virginia. For the most part of my life my mindset was, I am a descendant of slaves, my mom and dad worked like slaves and I don’t want to be nobodys’ slave. My dad , was a humble man ,who worked in many capacities for Bonham Brothers since the early days of his youth, mainly driving an International Tractor and Trailer or Truck hauling apples , or apple produce in one form or another up and down the east coast. The Child in me saw the humility in my dad as weakness , and his dedication to his job and his employer, as working like a slave and Bonham Brothers the slave owners. Blinded to the fact that what I saw as weakness was actually strength, also that the Bonham's provided a means for my dad and many other men and women Both Black and White to make an honest living to take care of their families. Viewing this painting one might wonder, what’s between the two slices of bread? The answer, if we have nothing but “ We should be thankful ! ”
