Ned Johnson

A well known artist in Southwestern Virginia, Johnson grew up in Wythe County and received a Bachelor of Arts from Emory and Henry College where he studied under his friend and mentor, George Chavatel. After teaching art in the public schools in Marion, Virginia for 30 years and painting at nights and on weekends, he retired in 2005 and now enjoys spending entire days producing art. Johnson works in a variety of media including oils, acrylics, watercolors, wood-burnings and pen and ink drawings.

Johnson exhibits work at festivals all over Virginia and has had exhibits at William King, Emory and Henry, Wytheville Community College, the U.S. Forestry Service and Bristol Chamber of Commerce, among other places. Many days you will find him producing art on the front porch of the Appalachian Spirit Gallery and entertaining visitors with lively stories and painting demonstrations.
