No Dreads is 5 piece reggae rock band from
Virginia Beach, VA. They play a wide range of styles and songs, with
both covers and originals. No Dreads started as a 3 piece band in
2005, with the original members Miles Mulkey
on bass and vocals, Chris Cesare on guitar and vocals, and Nigel
Temple on drums and vocals. This lineup thrived at the Virginia
Beach oceanfront club scene for over 3 years, and this minor success
was fueled by the band members and friends with no professional
management. This group performed at the Norva three times, numerous
battle of the bands, and played as far north as Atlantic City and as
far south as Wilmington, NC. 2009 brought a new bass player to the
group, Jason Sukle, who studied bass at
The Bass Collective in New York City, and has a degree in music
production and recording. This moved Miles to rhythm guitar, and
added much needed experience and structure to the group. Soon after
adding Jason, No Dreads performed in and won the Battle of the
Genres at the Half Shell, taking down 33 other local bands along the
way. In late 2009, the original drummer, Nigel, respectfully bowed
out to pursue a family life. So after months of playing with
replacement drummers, the group found what they needed in drummer
Taylor Parker and percussionist Jordan Dungan. Taylor has played in
local bands for years and has played drums for most of his life.
Jordan, the youngest member of the group, has brought much
enthusiasm and hard work to the team. So now, in 2010, after 5 years
of growth, No Dreads still continues to press on and rock local
venues harder than ever before. With a much fuller band and sound,
the group has started to experiment with many different genres of
music, from metal to country, while always staying true to their
reggae roots. With several summer tours planned for 2010, things
have never looked brighter for the young group, and they continue to
blow away audiences with their energy and genuine love for music.
With their crowd hypnotizing covers and compelling originals, No
Dreads is ready to keep moving forward in 2010 and beyond. “Have no
fear, have No Dreads”.
